The Spider. The Trouble Maker. The greatest of all time. The most feared of all time. This Saturday evening two of the most electrifying and powerful fighters in the history of the UFC collide for the first time at UFC 183 in Las Vegas. Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz. Torque Sports is very excited to be in the corner with the Stockton CA Bad Boy Nick Diaz in his return to action in almost two years.
Very few names rise to the top of the list when talking about the greatest of all time Mixed Martial Artists. Anderson Silva has long been that name. With almost flawless effort and domination Anderson spent much of his career defending the Middleweight Championship. With title defenses against Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin, Patrick Cote, Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin, it seemed like Silva could not be beat. That is, until The American Chris Weidman arrived. In shocking fashion Silva was TKO’ed in the second round of UFC 162 in Las Vegas. An instant rematch was set up and the world began to wonder… “Is Silva still the best in the world”. This time at UFC 168 fans around the world watched as Silva crumbled to the canvas in a gruesome leg kick injury during the second round. The fracture was so brutal that many thought it would be the end of his career. Silva was not only walking, but intensely training for a return only a few short months after surgery.
Nick Diaz has had the kind of MMA Career that reads as a Hall of Famer’s dream list. He possesses the highest significant strikes landed in UFC history. A Strikeforce and WEC Welterweight Champion. During his second return to the UFC Diaz beat the tough B.J.Penn, and instantly got fights against Contender Carlos Condit, and Champion Georges St-Pierre. After losing the St-Pierre, Diaz decided it was time to take a break. Dana White knew that Diaz is a huge draw for fans and when the opportunity presented itself Diaz was picked to return Anderson Silva back to action. Diaz agreed to up to 185 pounds to face Silva. A Welterweight much of his career the cut to 185 will be much easier.
Now Diaz is set for the fight of his life against the legend of Anderson Silva. One thing is sure; a Nick Diaz fight is never boring. People want to see real fights and real action and they always get that with Diaz. Diaz has a smothering style and relentless pursuit combined with elite training and cardio like nobody else. This Saturday night Diaz returns to action and walks out in his new Nick Diaz Gold UFC 183.
The heavily stacked UFC 183 card also has one of the most intriguing Lightweight match ups in Long time Torque Fighters Joe Lauzon and Al Iaquinta. Joe holds the most fight bonuses in UFC history and his fighting style definitely proves why. Exciting finishes, fast paced action and amazing jujitsu. After an early stoppage against Mike Chiesa Joe gets another tough scrappy fighter in “ Raging” Al. Iaquinta 10-3-1 is coming of an impressive TKO victory against Ross Pearson in Australia. Al looks to break into the top ten ranking soon and beating a seasoned veteran such as Lauzon could very well put Al into the mix with the best of the division. With heavy hands and pin point accuracy Al could give Joe some real trouble standing up. Fight fans will be sure to tune in early to catch this fantastic Lightweight match up. Al will be walking out Saturday night in the “VICTORY” walkout tee.
The #2 and #3 ranked Women’s Bantamweight fighters Miesha Tate and Sara McMann are also set to clash. Miesha Tate rattled off two decision wins against Torque fighters Liz Carmouche and Rin Nakai following two losses to the top of the division in Cat Zingano and Ronda Rousey. Sara McMann also avenged her only loss to Ronda Rousey by coming back strong against Lauren Murphy. With competition for Rousey looking thin lately this match will give a definitive #2 ranking and possible rematch scenarios. McMann also benefits from what many people thought was an early stoppage in her fight against Rousey. A strong showing for the Olympic Wrestler McMann could potentially give her that shot after the Cat and Rousey tussle at UFC184 in February. McMann will proudly be walking out in Torque apparel Power Strength Pride Burnout tee.
With so many great fights lined up Saturdays action promises to have something for everyone. The night also features #3 ranked Tyron Woodley, and rising Ultimate Fighter winner #7 ranked Kelvin Gastelum. Ian Mcall and John Lineker also get to throw down after their last fight was cancelled due to illness.
