2014 Highlights of Torque Athletes

TJ Lavin

Expanding on his role as the host of MTV’s The Challenge (formerly Real World/Road Rules Challenge) since 2005, TJ used 2014 to debut the newest version of the show with The Challenge: Free Agents, pitting former cast members from Real World, Fresh Meat II, and Spring Break Challenge together for their share of $350,000.

Urijah Faber

2014 proved to be an eventful year for Urijah, with three UFC matches between February and December. After losing UFC 169 to Renan Barão in a first round knockout, Urijah went on to take out Alex Caceres in three rounds in UFC 175 with a rear-naked choke hold submission before dropping Francisco Rivera in two rounds at UFC 181 with a bull dog choke submission.

Taylor Bray

Besides becoming one of the Torque Team’s newest members in November, Taylor’s also been dedicated to his “Video Work” short films, a collection of videos showcasing his board skills.

Chad Mendes

Chad’s been hard at work training, with his sole fight in 2014 proving to be an epic battle with José Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 179 on October 25th. Though he would go on to lose the fight in a very close decision, Chad became the first person to knock down Aldo in a UFC ring, rocking him with a left hand in the first round. Despite losing the fight, Chad would end up winning Fight of the Night honors for his performance.

Terry Adams

It’s been a pretty chill year for our favorite flatlander, though he did make an appearance in August during the best trick contest at Voodoo Jam. Check out the video to see his performance.

Josh Rodriguez (JROD)

JROD had a fun weekend competing during the Vans Pool Party earlier this year, finishing 6th. We’ve also got video here of him wrecking a pool at Combi Bowl. Enjoy!

Justin Buchholz

Justin returned to action 2014,in a short notice  fight against Lewis Gonzalez at World Series of Fighting 16, taking Gonzalez through three rounds before ultimately losing a split decision. Justin has become a central part of Team Torque and has coached and cornered some of the biggest fights of the year including 3 fights with Urijah Faber, a championship battle with Chad Mendes, and the Tj Dillashaw Championship win. He will also be in the corner for Cody Garbrandt’s first UFC fight during the huge UFC 182 card.

Anthony Napolitan

Despite an injury setback, Anthony had an eventful 2014, coming in 2nd place at the Texas Toast Jam and also premiering his brainchild: the Dreamline DMX dirt course, created by Anthony and master course builder Adam Aloise as part of Red Bull’s Signature Series.

Fabricio Werdum

In one of the premiere UFC matches of  2014, Fabricio Werdum won the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship following his UFC 180 title fight, needing only two rounds to TKO Mark Hunt with a flurry of pummeling punches and kicks. Congrats to all the Torque and Team Alpha Male athletes for their achievements this year. Looking forward to 2015.
