Fight fans will be treated to a double dose of action this weekend and it all starts today with weigh ins for The Ultimate Fighter Finale. The Strawweights get their night to shine in Las Vegas Nevada. Then Saturday night UFC Fight Night on Fox brings us a great card from Phoenix Arizona. This will be the first ever UFC event from the state of Arizona. Torque is very proud to have a great collection of fighters on the weekend’s cards.
The Ultimate fighter has lived up to its reputation this season and the ladies took over with coaches Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez who battled the weekend before. Friday night the finale will showcase all of the amazing talent from the 20th season of Ultimate Fighter. Team Torque member Tecia Torres takes on Angela Magana as the introduction fight on Fox Sports 1. Tecia Torres’ run to become the first ever UFC women’s strawweight champion came to an end as she lost a majority decision to No. 1 ranked Carla Esparza. Torres fought a great fight but it was basically a game of cat-and-mouse. Tecia came into the Ultimate fighter series a highly ranked favorite already have beaten the likes of Rose Namajunas, Felice Herrig, and Paige Van Zant at Invicta. Tecia looks to make a statement win in Vegas to secure her spot at the top of the division and a serious contender for the Strawweight title in the near future.
Starting out the night on the early Fight Pass Prelims is Angela Hill repping Torque. Angela a relative newcomer with only 1 official MMA fight faced #1 ranked Esparza. Despite giving up a massive edge in grappling experience, Hill defended well on the ground and she escaped from Esparza’s grasp. Hill came up short, but fought with a ton of heart and determination to give the former Invicta FC champion everything she could handle. Friday Night Angela faces Emily Kagan.
With no delay in action Saturday night brings another fight card this time from Phoenix Arizona. #2 ranked heavy weight returns to action on main card against Stipe Miocic, and longtime fan favorite bad boy Nate Diaz returns against #3 ranked Rafael dos Anjos. Also on the main card is Torque fighter Stefan Struve Facing Alistair Overeem. Stefan looks to make a big return after a brutal jaw break injury from the heavy handed mark Hunt. With over a year out of the Octagon Struve is poised to make a big comeback against fellow countryman Alistair who is always dangerous. Alistair has lost 3 of his last 5 and desperately needs a win to stay relevant in the conversation of top ranked heavyweights.
